We all desire a flat tummy but age, child bearing, lack of exercise and weight gain are the enemies in this battle. A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is an excellent choice to achieve a flatter stomach. This procedure will remove the excess fat and skin and tighten the muscles to improve your waistline, too. Dr. Buckspan will show you pre- and post-operative color photos and will discuss with you what you can expect from a tummy tuck. Tummy tuck is most often performed under general anesthesia. A full tummy tuck removes the excess skin and fat, and tightens the abdominal muscles. Limited tummy tuck procedures can be done using short scars to tighten the muslces and remove a smaller amount of skin. Liposuction is usually also done to reduce the fat beneath the remaining skin. A support binder or girdle is worn for several weeks. The length of time for recovery varies greatly depending on the extent of the tummy tuck and the general physical condition of the patient. Most patients can return to work from one to three weeks following surgery. The results of a tummy tuck can remain for many years, if there is no significant weight gain or the patient does not become pregnant. |
